  • Highlights

Fully Guided Trek / Grade 3: Challenging

    • 9 days. Two guided point-to-point treks
    • Family-run accommodation: hotels and mountain refuges
    • Switzerland’s highest and most iconic mountains
    • Dramatic mountain views, pretty hamlets, Alpine flowers
    • Built in free day

    Group size: 6-14

This trek traverses two main mountain regions of Switzerland: the high mountains of Zermatt and the Valais and the dramatic limestone landscape of the Bernese Oberland. The trek covers a good distance and we see a variety of scenery en-route with high passes, dramatic mountain landscapes and typical chocolate-box Swiss alpine pastures. The trip begins hiking in the shadow of the Matterhorn, crosses the Bernese Oberland via two fine passes and  finishes in the incredible Lauterbrunnen Valley: a classically carved U-shaped glacial valley that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You will have a fully qualified trekking Guide for the whole trek and most picnic lunches and two dinners are taken care of. We stay in family-run hotels and make use of the excellent Swiss mountain refuges and homestays which offer a good level of accommodation given their remote locations. You will have access to your luggage on most nights, though on a couple of occasions, when we head into the high mountains, you will be carrying a small amount of your own gear – light backpacking.

This trip will appeal to confident trekkers who enjoy challenging walking in incredible surroundings.

We spend six nights in small family-run hotels. All hotel rooms have private bathrooms. At Gorneren we stay at simple mountain house / inn with small rooms where there may be more than two to a room. At Trift we stay at the mountain refuge and are normally in twin bedded rooms. Both Gorneren and Trift have share bathroom facilities. Both have become favourites with our groups who love the remote setting and great hospitality.

On all nights vegetarian meals are available. Some of the hotels cater to other diets, such as vegan and gluten-free, but others hotels do not and so we are regretfully not able to guarantee this. It is best to bring some supplements with you.
