Why there is bus travel on some days on the TMB?

Friday, 26th January, 2018

Most of our clients do walk the whole TMB, but we add in the buses as some people prefer to miss out some small sections.

In summary:

Day 1. Most clients like to start the trek from Chamonix, hence the bus from our hotel in Les Houches, but some also walk from the Les Houches to Chamonix in 90 minutes.

Day 8. The section from La Palud (Courmayeur) to Les Chapieux is two days. However, there is not a good hotel at the half way point – only a refuge / mountain hut. Our trip is based in hotels and most of our clients prefer twin-bedded rooms to the dormitories found at refuges. Therefore, on day 8, we take a short bus ride to the road-head at Val Veny: this is approximately the half-way point and you walk all day from here to Les Chapieux. However, on Day 7 we allot a rest day and some clients choose to walk the section from La Palud to Val Veny and take the bus back to the hotel in La Palud in the afternoon. This then means you have completed the whole circuit on foot. To be honest, however, the majority of clients tend to take it easy, ride the new Sky Way cable car and indulge in pizza and coffee!
